Karting - Where to Start?

Part 1 - Chassis and Motor ->

Beginning karting

By Dave North (dnorth98@yahoo.com)

For some of us, karting is the the only way (video games aside) we will ever get to go motor vehicle racing. This is a good thing as it just happens to be the fastest growing form of motor sports in the world right now - and it's tons of fun to boot. It's no coincidence that some of the best drivers in the world got their start in karts - and still go back to karting to have a fun day's racing!

This series of articles will hopefully help the people wanting to get into karting but have a hard time trying to track down all the information needed to actually make it into the first race. I've tried to use my own experience when we entered the sport a little over a year and a half ago with practically no information about what is involved in kart racing. I wanted to assemble in one place a good guide for all the parts, equipment, etc. you'll need to get on the track with the minimum of fuss.

Part 1 discusses the obvious components - the kart and motor. Part 2 will cover the safety equipment needed and what I call "other stuff". Part 3 will cover your first race day (from the NCKC perspective of course) and part 4 will cover practice days (again, from the NCKC perspective)
